In Nilchara village, Singra upazila, Natore, a 56-year-old man was allegedly killed by his rivals on Wednesday night.
Sakir Sheikh, 56, a resident of the village, was named as the deceased.
Officer-in-Charge at the Singra Police Station Rafiqul Islam claimed that Sakir and Ashraful, a leader of the local Chhatra League, had been at differences over the use of a road next to their homes in the same area.
Sakir and Ashraful got into a fight on Wednesday night about the issue.
Sakir was killed instantly after Ashraful started brutally striking him with an iron rod during their argument. One of his accomplices also joined, the OC said on Thursday.
Sakir's neighbor Abdur Rahim was hurt as well while attempting to save him. His medical care has been provided by Sadar Hospital.
According to reports, police detained Ashraful and Barkat Ali in relation to the murder from last night.
