Bangladeshi youth shot dead by BSF at Lalmonirhat

In a tragic incident at the Patgram border in Lalmonirhat, a Bangladeshi youth lost his life due to firing by the Indian Border Guard Force BSF. The victim, identified as Abul Kalam Daku, aged 20, was fatally injured in the early hours of Friday morning.

The shooting occurred within Indian territory, near the Jhalangi BGB camp of Teesta 61 BGB battalion, around 4 am, according to Naib Subedar Nurul Amin, the in-charge of the Jhalangi camp.

Abul Kalam Daku, hailing from the Dangapara area of Srirampur Union, ventured out late Thursday night to fetch Indian cows along with some cattle crossing herdsmen, as reported by OC Abu Said of the Patgram police station.

Tragically, while nearing the Bangladesh border‍‍`s sub-pillar number 9, located within 150 yards of main pillar number 848, the group was fired upon by a patrol team from the 169 BSF‍‍`s Doradabri camp.

Despite efforts to rescue him, Kalam sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Patgram Upazila Health Complex, where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.

A meeting was promptly convened at the battalion commander level between BGB Teesta Battalion-2 and the 169 BSF battalion commandants on Friday morning in the pocket para area adjacent to border pillar 848/9S of Jhalangi BOP, informed Naib Subedar Nurul Amin.

The body of the deceased has been transferred to the Lalmonirhat morgue for post-mortem examination, confirmed OC Abu Said.
