US democracy summit may jeopardize the world: Int'l Think Tank

The upcoming summit for democracy in US may jeopardies the world combined strength and it may be a signal of diving the world, said, Li Huailiang, Dean of the Institute for a Community with Shared Future at the Communication University of China in a conference on Tuesday.

The Institute of Community of a Shared Future for mankind (ICSF) of the Communication University of China (CUC) hosted this hybrid international conference on "Community of a Shared Future for mankind · International Think Tank Forum (2021)", where academic scholars and policy makers of 12 countries and some students of CUC attended virtually and the leaders of the CUC participated from their campus.

The four hours long conference was followed by three sessions of panel discussions, where different speakers shared their thoughts and reflected on the milestones of the research centers, and made meaningful contributions on the banner of A Community with Shared Future of Mankind.

Three Deputy Dean of ICSF, CUC, Professor Zhang Yanqiu, Professor Ji Deqiang and Wen Chunying conducted these sessions among others.

However, on December 9-10, 2021, US President Joe Biden will host a virtual summit for leaders from 109 ‘democratic’ countries across the world.

US named its ‘Summit for democracy’ where China, Russia, Bangladesh and some other countries of the world are not included but Taiwan a province of China has been included as a separate country.

However, China’s government has accused Joe Biden of “a mistake” in inviting Taiwan to participate in a democracy summit alongside 109 other democratic governments.

Regarding this matter, Zhu Fenglian, spokeswoman for China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, said the inclusion of Taiwan was a “mistake” and Beijing opposed “any official interaction between the US and China’s Taiwan region”.

“This stance is clear and consistent. We urge the US to stick to the ‘one China’ principle and the three joint communiques,” she said.

However, Li Huailiang one of the key arrangers of that think tank forum said in the conference, “In avoidance of a "new Cold War", the international community should replace ideologically-centered theory with the common values of mankind, avoid drawing ideological lines, defuse strategic mistakes through seeking commonality in values despite political differences and uphold common values and well-being of all members of the community through concrete actions,”

“Next month the US will hold summit for democracy. I hope that the summit will not be a carnival of ideology centralism and will not be a signal of the world dividing.” He added.

Giving reference from the last virtual summit of China and US President, LI Huailiang said, “Undoubtedly, misjudging and mistreating China as an opposite competitor and value-shaker instead of partner and equal, the consequences of this “Cold War” mentality is a foreseeable danger to the world,”

While delivering opening speech Liao Xiangzhong, President of the Communication University of China welcomed the participants from twelve countries, as well as listeners from all over the world.

“The best of that tradition reminds us that China deserves its dream, its own greatness. America should welcome China to a multipolar, pluralistic world in which the distribution of power is recognized and a world of mutually respectful, free nations can flourish.”
