Milton Samadder remanded for 4 Days in human rights case

In a recent development, the Metropolitan Magistrate‍‍`s Court of Dhaka has ordered a four-day remand for Milton Samadder, the chairman of Child and Old Age Care Ashram, in a case filed under the allegations of violation of human rights. The order came after the conclusion of the hearing on Sunday (May 5) afternoon, where Magistrate Begum Shanta Akhtar issued the directive.

Earlier, following allegations of fraud in the death registry, Milton Samadder was summoned to court after the completion of a three-day remand in a case filed at Mirpur Model Police Station. Mohammad Kamal Hossen, Sub-Inspector of Mirpur Zone team, conducted the investigation. Subsequently, after his arrest under the Human Rights Act, Deputy Inspector General of Police Shikdar Maitul Alam applied for a seven-day remand.

The hearing regarding his arrest was initially conducted. Metropolitan Magistrate Mehra Mahbub granted permission for his detention. Later, a hearing on the matter of remand ensued. Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam of the Mirpur Model Thana (Human Rights) Court confirmed the information.

On May 2, the court approved a three-day remand for the accused. On the night of May 1, Milton Samadder was apprehended in the Mirpur area of the capital during an operation conducted by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). Subsequently, three cases were filed against him at Mirpur Model Police Station.

It has been reported that various allegations of extortion against Milton Samadder were raised in a national daily on April 25. It was alleged that more than 16 mobile banking numbers and three bank accounts were used to deposit millions of takas every month. Moreover, many people directly contributed funds to his organization. He allegedly misused these funds. Apart from financial irregularities, he is also under investigation for alleged fraud in the death registry and trafficking of children, as well as the elderly.
