3 held for torturing 2 minors over ‘stolen goats’ in Narail

Three people have been arrested for torturing two minors after tying them to a tree for allegedly stealing two goats in Lohagara upazila in Narail on Wednesday, reports The Daily Star.

One of the arrestees is Ashok Hor (34) of Erenda village while the two others are minors, who are now in the custody of their parents, said Lohagara Police Station's Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Abu Hena Milon.

Ashok was sent to the court while the two minor accused will be produced before the court according to the schedule, said the OC.

The incident happened at noon on Tuesday (April 12, 2022) at Erenda village and a video of the torture has become viral on Facebook.

The video showed that the two minors, who hailed from Paddabila and Sarulia village of the same upazila, were tied with a mahogany tree and beaten with sticks. Another woman and a man were seen assisting the torturers.

According to locals and police, two goats of Dolena Begum, wife of Zahur Sheikh of Erenda village, were "stolen" allegedly by the two on Tuesday.

Based on the allegations, they were tied to a tree and tortured by the locals including Dolena's family members. They were later handed over to the police.

On the following day, the minors were released and handed over to their parents as no written complaints were filed against them, the OC said.

One of the victims' fathers filed the case at Lohagara Police Station on Wednesday night mentioning the names of five people and three to four unnamed persons. Police made the arrests that night.

"They tied my son to a tree and beat him in front of everyone without any fault. I want a fair trial from the administration," the father said.
