Renowned economist Anu Muhammad loses five fingers in train mishap

Professor Anu Muhammad, esteemed Member Secretary of the National Committee for Protection of Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources and Power-Ports, suffered a grievous injury in a train accident at Khilgaon railway gate in the capital, resulting in the loss of all five fingers of one leg.

The incident occurred while he was disembarking from a train upon his return from Dinajpur, and he was promptly rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for urgent medical attention at 11:00 on Sunday (April 21).

Currently receiving treatment in the hospital‍‍`s emergency department, Professor Anu Muhammad, a prominent figure in Marxist economics and political discourse in Bangladesh, faces a challenging road to recovery.

A former professor at Jahangirnagar University‍‍`s Department of Economics, Anu Muhammad retired in 2023 after a distinguished academic career. His contributions extend beyond the classroom, having also taught in the Anthropology Department of the same institution. Moreover, he is renowned for his active advocacy against exploitation, discrimination, oppression, and domination in Bangladesh.
