Holding the Udichi ceremony against government directives was inappropriate: Mohammad Ali Arafat

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat expressed dismay over the neglect of security measures during program held by the cutural group Udichi, stating that it was inappropriate to prioritize the event over public safety.

Speaking from his office at the Secretariat on Monday afternoon, Arafat addressed concerns regarding the Udichi ceremony and statements made regarding Pahela Baisakh, emphasizing the importance of adhering to government directives.

"It was regrettable and unfortunate that the Udichi artist group proceeded with their performance despite instructions from government security agencies to ensure public safety during Pahela Boishakh," remarked the State Minister. "The government is deeply saddened and shocked by their disregard for security protocols."

Highlighting past incidents of violence during Pahela Boishakh celebrations, including bomb attacks in Ramna Botmule and Udichi in Jessore, Arafat underscored the government‍‍`s commitment to safeguarding citizens‍‍` lives and property. He credited the government‍‍`s vigilance for preventing terrorist attacks during Eid Jamaat gatherings in various locations.

Reflecting on historical attempts to obstruct Bengali cultural celebrations, Arafat criticized previous administrations for politicizing such events. "The government‍‍`s duty is to ensure security," he asserted, urging cooperation to prevent joyous occasions from turning into tragedies.

Addressing accountability for non-compliance with government directives, Arafat emphasized the need for responsible event management. He commended the Awami League government‍‍`s efforts in promoting Bengali culture and securing UNESCO recognition for the Mangal Shobhajatra procession.

As discussions continue regarding public events, Arafat urged stakeholders to prioritize safety and adhere to established protocols to ensure a secure and enjoyable experience for all participants.
