20-km-long tailback on Dhaka-Tangail Highway

A 20km tailback was occurred on Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge Highway ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha vacation.

Hundreds of holidaymakers were seen suffering as the gridlock extended from the eastern end of Bangabandhu Bridge to Rabna Bypass in Tangail on Thursday morning.

Ataur Rahman, in-charge of Elenga Highway Police said, "Traffic congestion was caused by vehicle breakdowns and minor accidents at some places on the bridge's eastern link road from 3am."

Early in the morning hundreds of stationed vehicles were seen on the highway.

In a bid to control traffic, the police have turned the two-lane road from Elenga to Bangabandhu Bridge into a one-way road.

The north-bound vehicles are going towards the bridge from Elenga while the Dhaka-bound vehicles from the road are entering the capital through Elenga via Bhuyapur.
