Hailstorm with 28mm rainfall on midnight, Dhaka wakes with 11th most unhealthy air

A sudden hailstorm struck, accompanied moderate to heavy rainfall in the capital city of Dhaka late Saturday night around 2:30a.m. Despite the storm, Dhaka woke up to a as usual reality on Sunday morning.

The city finds itself ranked 11th among 100 cities worldwide for air pollution, according to IQAir‍‍`s air quality index. At 8:30a.m., Dhaka recorded a score of 152, indicating unhealthy air quality levels.

Leading the global rankings in air pollution this morning are New Delhi, India, and Kinshasa, Republic of Congo, with scores of 273 and 168, respectively.

Meteorological data reveals that Dhaka received 28 mm of rainfall yesterday, with Nikli in Kishoreganj experiencing the highest rainfall in the country at 63 mm. The Meteorological Department forecasts the possibility of further rain accompanied by gusty winds or thunder in Dhaka today.

As the nation woke up, Nikli and Badalgachi recorded the lowest temperatures at 16.5 degrees Celsius, with Dhaka reporting a minimum temperature of 20 degrees Celsius.
