DU retreats decision to drop ‘Gha’ unit

The Dhaka University authorities have decided to keep ‘Gha’ unit in the admission tests for undergraduate certificates like the previous years.

Social Science faculty dean professor Zia Rahman confirmed the matter to TheReport.live on Wednesday.

The decision not to abolish the ‘Gha’ unit has been taken during a meeting of the deans’ committee, he said.

The university decided to drop the unit to relieve the admission seekers from exam pressure. The decision has been approved during a general meeting on 7 February, Vice-Chancellor Akhtaruzzaman said.

“We don’t want to increase pressure on students by taking the additional examinations. For that reason, we won’t take the ‘Gha’ unit test.”

Sharing his own experience Akhtaruzzaman said, “I was a student of science background. But I studied Islamic History. There was no additional test to change groups in the past.” Earlier in 2020, the deans’ committee decided to lift ‘Gha’ unit but was later canceled.
