Top Rohingya leader Muhibullah shot dead in Cox’s Bazar

Top Rohingya leader in Bangladesh Muhibullah has been shot dead by miscreants in Cox’s Bazar.

The incident took place around 8:30 pm Wednesday at Rohingya camp-1 in Kutupalong of the district.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Naimul Haque of APBN-14 confirmed the matter to TheReport.live.

“Muhibullah was the chairman of Aakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights. Typically, he may have some rivals who are likely to commit the murder,” Naimul Haque said.

“The body has been kept at the Ukhia police station mortuary. Legal process is underway,” added he.

Eyewitnesses said, Muhibullah was at his office after the Esha prayer at the east block-D of Kutupalong Rohingya camp-1 while miscreants gunned him down from point-blank range.

The Rohingya leader sustained critical injury and was taken to Kutupalong MSF Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Additional members of law enforcement agencies have been deployed in the camp to avert any untoward situation.

Mohibullah, a teacher by profession, came to the limelight on 25 August, 2019 when a rally organised by Arakan Rohingya Society to observe two years of the latest Rohingya exodus from the Rakhine state of Myanmar, drew more than 100,000 people.
