Saudi Arabia nods entry of Sinopharm vaccine receivers

Saudi Arabia decided to allow the Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines receivers for Umrah hajj.

Earlier, the Saudi authorities published a list of vaccines excluding Sinpharm vaccine produced by Chinese Sinovac Company to enter the country.

The list approved vaccines produced by Oxford-AstraZeneca, Pfizer-BioNTech, Johnson & Johnson, and Moderna.

The Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia said it was possible for those who had completed their vaccination programme with Sinopharm or Sinovac to be accepted in the Kingdom, provided they had received a booster shot of a vaccine that was approved in the country, Arab News reports.

It previously said that two doses of two different vaccines could be taken, according to international scientific studies that showed the safety and effectiveness of this approach in addressing the virus.

The Umrah pilgrims were facing uncertainty after the kingdom discarded entry of Sinopharm vaccine receivers.

Later on, the Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAAB) requested Bangladesh government to try resolving the issue.

The religious affairs ministry has been requested to discuss the matter with Saudi government, HAAB president M Shahadat Hosasin told The Report on Tuesday (August 24).
