Life comes before economy: Health Minister

Government is prioritising the public health despite the economy has to incur huge loss amid the lockdown which were declared to curb coronavirus surge, said health minister Zahid Maleque. He said, 21 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines will arrive in the country soon.

He came up with the remarks while talking to reporters at his office in the secretariat on Monday (July 26)

The minister said, “The ongoing situation is the toughest since the onset of the pandemic. The infection rate is skyrocketing and became tough to bring in control.”

“Government imposed tougher restrictions to limit public movement following the deadly situation of the pandemic. All public and private offices are closed along with industrial factories. Though the economy has a detrimental impact, the government is prioritising public health. Life comes before economy,” Farhad furthered.

Terming resume to mass vaccination as a worth mentioning news the minister said, “Some 21 crore doses of vaccines have been managed so far. Out of them Russia will provide 1 crore Sputnik doses, China 3 crore Sinopharm vaccine, 3 crores of AstraZeneca, 7 crore each of Covax and Johnson and Johnson.”   

A new batch of 30 lakh Sinopharm shots will touch the ground on Tuesday (July 27), added he.

In a bid to preserve Pfizer vaccines 26 freezers have been brought from World Health Organisation (WHO). There is no preservation problem of vaccines in the country, he said.
