Jatrabari AL leader killed over power connection

A 37-year-old Awami League (AL) leader of a Jatrabari unit has been killed in a knife attack in the area reportedly over an electricity conection. Another person was also injured in the incident

The victim is Abu Bakkar Siddque Habu, was the president of unit No 14 within ward No 50 of the Dhaka metropolitan AL. He was the son of the late Ali Ahmad Hawlader of Nanda village in Shariatpur district.

The stabbing took place in front of his shop at the Shaheed Faruq Road around on Tuesday. He was declared brought dead around 8pm after being rushed to a local hospital.

Confirming the death, police said they primarily learnt that there was a dispute over having power connections to makeshift shops on footpaths in the area.

Sajjad Hossain, organizing secretary of the unit, said there had been a dispute between Habu and some local youths over power connection on the footpath.

“A group of youths numbering four to five stabbed him with sharp weapons in Shaheed Faruk Saroni area in the evening and left him critically injured,” he said.

Jatrabari Police OC Mazharul Islam told thereport.live that they were trying to unearth details about the murder.
