Indigenous Awami League leader shot dead in Rowangchhari

Miscreants shot dead an Awami League leader of ethnic descent after entering his house in Rowangchhari Upazila, in Bandarban district, according to a report published in the Prothom Alo.

The incident took place at Talukdarpara area of the upazila around 7 pm on Tuesday (November 23). 

During that time, another woman was also shot by the miscreants.

The man killed in the gun attack was identified as Uthowainu Marma (42), a resident of Talukdarpara area of Tarachha union of Rowangchhari upazila.

He is a member of the Taracha Union Awami League.

The other woman who was shot has been identified as Krathwiching Marma (35), a widow from the same neighborhood.

According to locals, four or five armed men came to Talukdarpara of Tarachha Union, about 25 km away from Rowangchhari Upazila Sadar on Tuesday evening. At that time, they entered the house of Uthowainu Marmar ired at him with automatic weapons.

Speaking to the media in this regard, the chairman of Taracha Union Parishad, Uthoaiching Marma, said that the gunmen shot Uthoyainu Marma and fled quickly.

Henceforth, the attackers could not be identified.

Rowangchhari  police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter. Police team have been sent to recover the victim's body, he said.
