Five killed in launch rope break at Sadarghat

A devastating incident unfolded at Sadarghat in the capital, claiming the lives of five individuals as a launch rope broke loose. The tragic event occurred in front of platoon number 11 of Sadarghat Launch Ghat at 2:58 pm on Thursday.

According to fire service sources, the launches MV Tashrif-4 and MV Pubali-1 were securely tethered to the pontoon with ropes. However, tragedy struck when the rope of MV Tashrif-4 snapped while passengers were boarding, causing chaos as another launch, Farhan, became wedged between the two vessels.

Among the victims were three men, one woman, and one child, all seriously injured in the mishap. The injured were promptly transported to Mitford Hospital via fire service ambulance, where the attending physician pronounced them dead.

Confirming the fatalities, Naval Police SP Gautam Kumar Biswas revealed that two additional individuals sustained injuries in the incident and were also rushed to Mitford Hospital for treatment.
