Dengue spreading alarmingly amid Covid concern

Dengue fever has become a concern akin the coronavirus infection. Patients are mounting up in the hospitals every day. Number of patients is increasing at different hospitals across the country. Hospitals, doctors and health workers are struggling to tackle the situation.

The highest number of dengue patients was detected in July accounting for 2 thousand 286 people while 99 per cent of them are in capital Dhaka.

According to the information of health department’s emergency operation center and control room, 105 people were admitted to different hospitals in the country on July 25, 123 on July 26, 143 on July 27, 153 on July 28, 194 on July 29, 170 on July 30 and 196 on July 31 taking the total infected people to 1 thousand 84 people in a week. 

Out of the infected people in the week 1 thousand 53 hail from Dhaka city while 31 out of the capital.

Some 32 patients were hospitalized in January while the figure reached at 2 thousand 658 at the end of July. As many as 2 thousand 286 were detected in July alone.

At least 4 people have died so far who were infected in dengue. However, information of their death has been sent to Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) to examine where or not the cause of death was dengue.

Health minister Zahid Maleque said, separate hospitals will be facilitated to treat dengue patients amid the coronavirus pandemic.

He said this while talking to newsmen after visiting a field hospital of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on July 25).

Dengue has been spreading alarmingly in the country amid Covid-19 concern. Number of patients is increasing every day. Many of them engulfs the risk corona infection after being hospitalized.
