CEC announces possible date of the upcoming JS election

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal on Saturday morning has said that the upcoming 12th Jatiya Sangsad-JS (National Parliament) election will be held at the end of next year or at the beginning of 2024.

He said this in a meeting held at capital’s Agargaon Election Commission Bhaban at 10 am on Saturday with Additional Inspector general of Police (AIGP), Home Secretary as well as DC-SPs on Zilla Parishad and other elections.

"The 12th National Parliament general election will be held in the last quarter of next year or the beginning of 2024. You are the main administrative units of the country, the top officers of the district administration. By virtue of office, you perform important responsibilities close to the people." said the Chief ellection commissioner.

Addressing the Additional IG of Police, Secretary of Home Ministry and DC-SP present in the meeting, the CEC said, "You must have realized the importance of forming the government and local government through elections in a democratic supremacy system."

Mentioning that elections are an ongoing process for years he said, although elections are held every five years, various local government elections are ongoing for one reason or another. For example, Zilla Parishad elections will be held on the 17th. Then there are two by-elections to the National parliament."

The CEC also urged the law enforcement agencies and the administration to fulfill their legal responsibilities in all elections to continue the democratic trend of the country.
