BIWTA forms committee to investigate fatal launch collision; State Minister Khalid Mahmud offers condolences

The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has established a three-member investigation committee to probe the tragic incident resulting in the death of five passengers after the launch rope snapped at Sadarghat.

Led by BIWTA Director (Purchase and Storage) Md. Rafiqul Islam, the committee includes Joint Director of Naval Conservation and Management Department Azgar Ali and Joint Director of the Port Branch Kabir Hossain.

The committee has been tasked with submitting its findings to the BIWTA Chairman within the next seven working days.

State Minister for Shipping Extends Condolences

Expressing deep sorrow over the tragic incident, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury MP conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased passengers. He lamented the loss of lives in the Sadarghat launch mishap, which occurred at 2:58 pm on Thursday.

In a condolence message, the state minister prayed for the souls of the departed and extended heartfelt sympathies to their loved ones. Furthermore, he expressed hopes for the swift recovery of the injured individuals. Assuring that justice will prevail, the state minister vowed to ensure that those responsible for the incident are held accountable under the law.
