‍‍`Bangladesh wants to quell tensions along Myanmar border through talks‍‍`

Bangladesh wants to quell the tensions along the Myanmar border through bilateral “dialogue and discussions”, says Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen.

He said: "We want to ease the tension through talks using the existing mechanism between the two border forces amid Myanmar’s internal conflicts."

He made the comments while talking to journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.

He said: “Basically it’s an action against their insurgents inside Myanmar. Maybe unintentionally several incidents took place. They acknowledged the matter."

The foreign secretary said the BGB remains vigilant though the firing happened almost 10 kilometers off the Bangladesh border.

Inside Myanmar, there are incidents of falling mortar shells and bombs blast, he said, adding that basically, these are happening inside the Myanmar border.

“But sounds are being heard here in Bangladesh side. For this reason, local people might have become restless. Our surveillance is there. We are observing the situation,” reports UNB quoting the foreign secretary.

He further said efforts are there so that no tension prevails along the border. “We remain highly alert. BGB will not allow anyone inside Bangladesh.”
