75 percent of the coronavirus dedicated hospitals across the country became vacant as the infection rate continues decreasing for weeks.

Health minister Zahid Maleque said this while talking to reporters at the secretariat after regular cabinet meeting on Monday (September 6).

“There as 17 thousand beds across the country in coronavirus dedicated hospitals. As many as 12-14 thousand beds have become vacant,” the minister said.

He said, these beds will be reserved for other patients including those suffering from cancer.

“The vaccination against Covid-19 will be expedited from this month. A total of 2.5 crore doses will arrive in September. Out of them two crore are produced by Sinovac while 50 lakh of Pfizer,” added he.

Referring to the inoculation of children the minister said, “We are waiting for the approval of the World Health Organisation to push the vaccine on children over 12 years old. The global body is yet to nod any country for the inoculation. The country which already began vaccinating children are inoculating on their own way.”
