BNP-Jamaat blockade: 2 reportedly die in Kishoreganj, police claim one

Police reported that one person died in a clash between Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leaders and activists in Kuliarchar of Kishoreganj. 

However, local BNP claims that two of its men were killed as police allegedly open fire on them around 8 am on Tuesday.

More than half a hundred people from both sides were injured in this incident near the Chhaysuti bus stand on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway of the upazila.

Kuliarchar Upazila BNP president Nurul Millat said, "Our procession was very peaceful. The police fired indiscriminately on the peaceful march. Two of our leaders named Rifat and Billal died in police firing."

Rifat Ullah was the vice president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal‍‍`s Chhaysuti Union  and Billal Miah was the President of the Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal‍‍`s same union unit. Both the organizations are affiliate to BNP.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Kuliarchar police station Golam Mustofa said that the BNP men attacked the police first. 

"At least 20 people were injured in the attack. Many of them have received treatment from the hospital. 

The OC said that according to his knowledge, one person died in the incident. However, it is not certain whether he died due to shooting or any other reason, according to him.
