Woman killed, communications snapped as Sitrang approaches Bangladesh coast

A woman died after she fell under a large tree branch blown off by the gusty winds of cyclone Sitrang in Narail's Lohagara upazila parishad.

 

Marzina Begum, 32, was hit in the head by a tree branch near Palli Savings Bank around 1 pm on Monday on her way to work. 

 

Locals took her to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.

 

Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Md Nasir Uddin confirmed. 

 

Meanwhile, connecting roads between many districts snapped due to the calamity. 

 

Different parts of the country are facing power outage because of the storm.

 

The cyclonic storm hit the coastal areas of the country on Monday evening and will cross the coast by early morning Tuesday.

 

The 13 districts that are at risk of being impacted are Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalakathi, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barishal, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Noakhali and Feni.

 

BMD has increased the warning signal in the country's seaports due to cyclonic storm Sitrang. Mongla and Payra seaports have been asked to hoist danger signal number 7 and Chattogram seaport and Cox's Bazar to hoist danger signal number 6.
