In a heartbreaking incident along the Karnaphuli River in Chittagong, Bangladesh, a pilot named Asim Jawad lost his life in a training aircraft crash.

The mishap occurred on Thursday (May 9) at around 10:25 am, shortly after takeoff from Zahurul Haque Airfield in Chittagong, when a Yak-130 training aircraft crashed near the confluence of the Karnaphuli River. Squadron Leader Muhammad Asim Jawad, the pilot, attempted an emergency parachute landing in the river. He was swiftly transported to the Naval Hospital in critical condition, where medical staff, unfortunately, pronounced him dead.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Air Chief Marshal Sheikh Abdul Hannan extended their condolences to the departed pilot‍‍`s family and expressed deep sympathy for their loss.

Squadron Leader Muhammad Asim Jawad was born on March 20, 1992, in Gopalpur village of Saturia Upazila, Manikganj district. His father, Dr. M.A. Ullah, and mother, Nilufa Akhtar Khanam, raised him alongside his wife and two children.

He completed his SSC from Savar Cantonment Public School in 2007, followed by HSC from Savar Cantonment Public College in 2009, and earned his BSc (Aero) from Bangladesh University of Professionals in 2012.

Asim Jawad joined the Bangladesh Air Force on January 10, 2010, and was commissioned into the GD (P) branch on December 1, 2011, receiving the Sword of Honor and the Gold Medal for Best All-Round Performance. He was recognized for his professional skills and achievements, receiving accolades such as the ‍‍`Mafiz Trophy‍‍`, ‍‍`Chief of Air Staff Trophy,‍‍` and commendation from the Chief of Air Staff. Additionally, he participated in a course with the Indian Air Force, earning the ‍‍`Chief of Air Staff‍‍`s Trophy for Best in Flying (Indian Air Force)‍‍`.

At the time of his death, he was 32 years, 1 month, and 20 days old, having served actively in the Bangladesh Air Force for 12 years, 5 months, and 9 days.
