Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said the prime minister asked not to name the Padma Bridge after a person.
Rather, it should be named after the "mighty river" Padma.
The minister also informed that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has rejected the Bridge Division's proposal to name the long-cherished bridge after her.
Quader said: "We provided two summaries for PM. She signed the first one setting the inauguration date of the Padma Bridge on June 25. However, she did not sign the other one regarding naming of the bridge"
"I don't want anyone's name here. Name the bridge after the river," Quader quoted Hasina as saying.
It would not be named after anyone from the Bangabandhu family, Quader said.
