A representative group of Myanmar sat for a meeting on Rohingya replacement

A representative group from Myanmar has sat in a meeting in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar to scrutinize the return of millions of Rohingyas who fled from the torture of the Myanmar Army to Bangladesh.

Before that, on Wednesday (March 15) around 10 a.m, the 22-member Myanmar representative crossed the Naf river and reached the Jaliapara transit in Teknaf. They were greeted by a group from Bangladesh led by Mizanur Rahman, the Cox's Bazar Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner.

Additional Commissioner for Refugees, Relief and Repatriation Mohamed Shamsuddoza confirmed this to the media.

He told the media that the representative of 22 members of the Myanmar Immigration Department reached Teknaf at 9:50 am. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) provided security to them at that time. The representatives were then brought by car to Malancha Rest house. Later they were taken to Keruntali in Teknaf. A bilateral meeting of Bangladesh and Myanmar took place there on the issue of Rohingya replacement, in which Mizanur Rahman, Commissioner for Refugee Relief and Repatriation, led the Bangladesh team.

According to the sources of the Refugee Affairs Commission, the return list of Rohingyas sent by Bangladesh, who have been verified as the citizens of Myanmar was discussed. Also, the route map of the Rohingya replacement process was being discussed. However, the commission said that this meeting does not mean the start of their replacement.

According to the Refugee Commission, Bangladesh has given Myanmar a list of 8 lakh and 30 thousand Rohingyas. Myanmar chose only about 60 thousand from there. The replacement was supposed to start before two times based on that list, but it was not possible due to the objection of the Rohingyas.

On August 25, 2017, when the Myanmar army launched a military operation against the Rohingya in Rakhain province, more than 8 lakh Rohingya fled and sought refuge in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. Several lakhs of Rohingya came to Bangladesh at different times before this. In total, about 1.2 million Rohingya are staying in camps in Cox's Bazar.
