14 years of Pilkhana carnage, justice yet to be served

Today 25th February marks 14 years of the deadly carnage of the Pilkhana BDR, families of the victims await to get justice.

A total of 74 people, including 57 army officers, were killed in the carnage beginning on this day in 2009.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will organize Quran Khawani, doa, and milad mahfil at the headquarters today said a BGB press release.

The representatives of President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, placed floral wreaths at the graves of the slain army officers at the Military Graveyard.

The BGB flag will be at half-mast and all BGB members will wear black badges throughout these two days.

14 years back, on February 25, 2009, over hundreds Bangladesh Rifles men rose up in an armed revolt at Darbar Hall during the three-day "BDR Week". Still the victims' families and the accused in the carnage case waiting for justice due to the lengthy legal process. At least 829 people, mostly BDR members, were accused in the carnage case.

The mutiny finally ended on Feb 26 with the surrender of firearms and grenades through a negotiation between the then government and the BDR rebels, leaving the whole nation numbed and shocked.

58 cases including one for murder and looting and the rest for mutiny were filed in connection with the incident.
