Nobel laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus paid Tk 12.47 crore tax today on money he contributed three of his trusts.
His lawyer Sarder Jinnat Ali said that Prof Yunus cooperated with the Supreme Court`s judgment and paid the money.
"The account officer of Prof Muhammad Yunus has informed me that the money has been paid through South East Bank Ltd to the government exchequer," he said.
On July 23, the Supreme Court`s Appellate Division affirmed a High Court ruling that supported the tax authorities` decision to levy taxes on the money Prof Yunus gave to his three charitable trusts.
