At least four people—two of them children—were killed and numerous more injured when Benapole Express caught fire in the Gopibagh neighborhood of the capital on Fariday around 9:05pm. 

"We located four bodies," said the director general of Fire Service and Civil Defense, Brig Gen Md Main Uddin, also stated that two of them were youngsters.

Witnesses claimed that it quickly spread to four carriages of the passenger train.

The injured individuals were taken to various hospitals, including Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

At approximately 10:20 p.m., firefighters used seven fire engines to put out the fire.

The tragedy of happened barely two days prior to the national election of the country. 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina mourned at the tragedy and order to investigate the incident whether it is a sabotage. 

Police suspecting an arson attack ahead of the election boycotted by the opposition BNP.

Since November 16, there have been eight arson attacks on trains. The incidents resulted in the deaths of eight travelers.

On December 19, arsonists burned down the Mohanganj Express in the capital, killing four people—a three-year-old and a woman among them.
