To control the dengue situation, monitoring which type or variant is spreading more is necessary. But due to the lack of funds, this monitoring is stopped, starting from treatment and prevention of outbreaks, the related authorities said.

The monitoring stopped due to a lack of funds

There are four types of dengue virus. The government does not have any information about which type of outbreak is more prevalent in the country this year. Due to a lack of funds, the health department is unable to monitor the dengue situation. The Health Department‍‍`s Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) monitors the disease situation in the country. But Professor Tahmina Shirin, director of the institution, said that they do not know which type of dengue outbreak is going on this year.

Monitoring of dengue is stopped due to lack of ‍‍`funds‍‍`. Dengue outbreak is high this year. However, Director General of the Health Department Abul Basar Mohammad Khurshid Alam commented that the incident of IEDCR‍‍`s surveillance activities being stopped due to lack of money is sad and undesirable. He said, "If they (IEDCR) wanted, we would have tried to arrange funds."

Treatment is difficult without knowing the type

Dr. Kabirul Bashar, mosquito researcher and Professor of the Zoology Department of Jahangirnagar University said that to understand the pathological risk, it is necessary to know about the type of dengue. Secondly, it is necessary to know the type of dengue for treatment. So it needs to be continued as a routine task.

According to pathologists, there are four types of dengue virus - Dengue-1, Dengue-2, Dengue-3, and Dengue-4. After being infected with a type, the body produces antibodies, that is, the body develops immunity to the disease. That way there is no risk of relapse. However, there is a risk of contracting the other three types.

The number of patients is increasing

Last year, 90% of hospitalized patients were infected with DEN-3, resulting in low mortality rates among patients. This year, "shock syndrome" is more common among dengue patients. 211 people in the country in 24 hours were admitted to hospital due to dengue. This is the highest number of dengue patients admitted to the hospital in a single day this year. At the same time, one person died as a result of this.

At present, 703 people are hospitalized with dengue. And 27 people have died due to dengue this year.
