Bangladesh defense journalists elect new leadership

The Defense Journalist Association of Bangladesh (DJAB), the esteemed collective of reporters covering armed forces and defense matters, has elected its new leadership. Alamgir Hossain, Head of News at Somoyer Alo, steps into the role of President, while Ahmad Ullah, Senior Reporter at Bangladesh Post, assumes the mantle of General Secretary.

This significant election unfolded on Tuesday (April 30) afternoon at a prestigious eatery in Dhaka, the capital city.

Following a meticulous vote count, Syed Shukur Ali Shubo, Chief Election Commissioner of DJAB‍‍`s Election Management Committee and President of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), formally declared the victorious names. Alongside, Aktar Hossain, General Secretary of Dhaka Journalist Union, and Muhammad Jahangir Alam, outgoing vice president of DJAB, graced the occasion. Alamgir Hossain, the freshly chosen president, brings prior experience as DJAB‍‍`s General Secretary for two consecutive terms.

The newly constituted 13-member DJAB Executive Committee for a two-year tenure comprises Tariqul Islam Masum from Channel Eye as Joint Secretary, Kazi Sohag from Daily Manabzamin as Organizing Secretary, Miraj Miju as Desh TV‍‍`s Finance Secretary, Jamal Uddin from Bangla Tribune as Office Secretary, Ismail Hossain Imu from Dainik Ajkaler Khabar as Publicity and Publication Secretary, Kamal Hossain Talukdar from bdnews24.com as Training and Research Secretary, Ali Asif Shawon from Dhaka Tribune as Sports and Cultural Secretary, and Sajjad Mahmud Khan from Dainik Amader Somoy as Sports and Cultural Secretary. Additionally, the Executive Committee includes MM Badsha from Bangla TV, Rakibul Hasan from MyTV, and Arifur Rahman Rabbi from The Business Post.

Preceding the election, DJAB convened its Annual General Meeting (AGM) under the stewardship of Muhammad Jahangir Alam, the outgoing committee‍‍`s vice-president. The AGM witnessed vibrant discussions and strategic decisions with near-complete attendance from DJAB members. Noteworthy, the election ceremony attracted several esteemed guests as observers.
