Death toll passes 350; 12 more die in past 24 hours

The death toll from Dengue outbreak across the country surpassed 350 since January this year. 

Twelve more deaths were reported in 24 hours till Wednesday morning, raising the fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 352 this year.

During the period, 2,844  more patients were hospitalized with the viral fever, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the new patients, 1,119 were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and 1,752 outside the capital -- indicating a worsening situation across the country , according to DGHS.

A total of 9,427 dengue patients, including 4,421 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.

So far, the DGHS has recorded 75,069 dengue cases and 65,290 recoveries this year.

Meanwhile, DGHS statistics suggest that August might be the deadliest month for the Dengue outbreak this year as the country has seen 101 deaths already within the first week of the month. During the first week of August, 23,237 cases have been reported across the country. 

So far, July has been the deadliest month for the dengue outbreak with 204 fatalities and 43,854 cases reported across the country.
