Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina extended her congratulations to Vladimir Putin on his re-election as the President of Russia, as confirmed by the Prime Minister`s Press Wing on Thursday.
With over 87 percent of the votes in the presidential election, Putin secures his position in Moscow for the fifth consecutive term. His closest contender, Russian Communist Party candidate Nikolai Kharitonov, garnered just over 4 percent of the votes during the election held from March 15 to 17.
This resounding victory ensures Putin`s continuation in power for another six years, with the inauguration ceremony for his presidency scheduled on May 7.
However, despite the landslide win, the election has faced widespread criticism regarding democratic legitimacy.
Addressing concerns, Putin remarked at a post-election press conference, "This result reflects the West`s decision to ignore and continue the war in Ukraine."
