Padma Bank Chairman Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat has resigned due to medical issues.
Bangladesh Bank today accepted his resignation letter.
Md Mezbaul Haque, Bangladesh Bank spokesperson, issued the announcement following a meeting of bankers at the central bank`s headquarters in Dhaka today.
Md Afzal Karim, managing director of Sonali Bank, will operate as Padma Bank`s acting chairman until a new chairman is selected, said Haque.
Sarafat got the chairmanship of Padma Bank, formerly Farmers Bank, in January 2018.
Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir, the bank`s chairman before Sarafat, resigned from the board due to allegations of involvement in financial scams.
