Former mayor of Jamalpur Dewanganj Municipality Shahnawaz Shahanshah was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from the capital's Uttara on Thursday (December 23) morning.
RAB had cordoned off the Hotel de Meridian this morning to arrest the municipal mayor accused of physically assaulting the Dewanganj Upazila Secondary Education Officer in Jamalpur during the Victory Day celebrations.
On December 16, Mayor Shahnawaz slapped Upazila Education Officer Meher Ullah at the Dewanganj Government High School ground in Jamalpur. The incident took place during a wreath-laying ceremony.
Later, the education officer lodged a written complaint with the Upazila Nirbahi Officer.
