A charge sheet has been filed against former SP Babul Akter, journalist Elias and 4 others in a case filed under the Digital Security Act for providing and disseminating false and untrue information in the Mitu murder case.
However, they were acquitted as the charges under the Special Powers Act were not proved. Apart from this, as the journalist Elias is absconding, an arrest warrant has been applied against him.
The other two defendants in the charge sheet of this case are Babul Akter's brother Md. Habibur Rahman Labu, 45 and father, 72 Md. Abdul Wadud Mia.
Recently, after the investigation, the charge sheet of this case was filed in the court. Tomorrow is the date for filing the case report. The charge sheet of the case will be presented in the court.
Earlier, on September 27 last year, Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) chief, Banaj Kumar Majumdar filed a case under the Digital Security Act and Special Powers Act as a plaintiff in the Dhanmondi police station of the capital.
Mitu was shot and stabbed to dead in broad daylight at GEC intersection in Chattogram city while she went there to drop her son for school bus on June 5, 2016.
Mitu’s husband Babul Akter as, a plaintiff, filed a case accusing several anonymous with Panchlaish police station on that night.
Initially the case was shifted to city DB police. The next year, court ordered to handover the case to Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).
The PBI probe found connection of Babul Akter to the murder. Later on, Mitu’s father Mosharraf Hossain filed another case with the same police station on May 12 where Babul Akter was named as prime accused.
