Infections reach 9,500 in a single day

In a 24-hour count till Wednesday (January 19) morning, health authorities in Bangladesh reported 9,500 new infections. 

With the latest development, the tally of Covid-19 infections in the country since the beginning of the pandemic has reached 1,642, 294. 

According to government data, the daily positivity rate in the country further increased to 25.11 percent after testing 37,573 samples.

The positivity rate has climed to 25.11 percent from 23.98 percent that was reported on Tuesday. 

During the same period health authorities reported 12 more deaths from coronavirus, which mounted the tally of Covid-19 deaths at 28,176. 

Out of the deaths reported, 8 were from from the capital and two from Chattogram, and the other two from Rajshahi and Sylhet each. 

Among the divisions, Dhaka reported the highest figures in terms of both cases and fatalities. 

Meanwhile, 473 more patients recovered from the infectious disease during the 24-hour period through treatment at home and in hospitals. 

The latest Covid-19 situation in the country was revealed by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in its routine daily statement.
