Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday said that her government seeks to restore the spirit of the Liberation War and build a non-communal society free from poverty and hunger.
The prime minister said this at a meeting of the National Implementation Committee for Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's 100th Birth Anniversary Celebration at Shapla Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
She said that after Bangabandhu’s assassination in 1975, Bangladesh had gone far away from the spirit of the Liberation War.
"It was an attack on the entire Bangalee nation rather than on us (our family) only," she said.
She said that Bangabandhu had dedicated his entire life to liberate the people and ensure them a beautiful and improved life.
Hasina, also chairman of the implementation committee, said her government has transformed Bangladesh into a developing country in 2021 when the nation celebrated the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation and golden jubilee of the country's independence.
The prime minister said her government has been materializing the dreams of Bangabandhu one after another.
She mentioned that the cent per cent electrification of the country achieved last week.
"The day is not so far when not a single person will remain without an address or homeless and landless," she reiterated.
She said that she has a plan to build a separate e-library on Bangabandhu at Dhanmandi 32 on a large scale. People from across the globe will have access to the library to study and conduct research using the documents to be preserved in the library.
The PM stressed the need for digitising all documents like various publications, books, films, short films, documentaries on the Liberation War and the architect of independent Bangladesh.
Referring to establishment of Muktijoddha Complex in each upazila having a mini museum, she said that these are mainly built as none can destroy the history of the Liberation War again.
She also called for disseminating the history of the Liberation War at the grassroots.
About building a military museum, Toshakhana Museum and an underground museum at Suhrawardi Udyan, she said the government is doing everything possible to preserve the history of the Liberation War.
She said her government has a plan to modernise the national library and planetarium in each division and a cell in the International Mother Language Institute to preserve the history of the Liberation War.
In this connection she reminded the nation that attempts have been made several time to distort the country's real history.
Hasina recalled the role of her two teachers Prof Anisuzzaman and Prof Rafiqul Islam, who until their demise worked hard for making Bangabandhu’s centenary celebration a success.
Members of the Bangabandhu's birth centenary celebration committees including Jatiya Sangsad speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, cabinet members, high civil and military officials and eminent cultural activists were present on the occasion.
