Bangladesh reports highest single-day caseload in 13 weeks

Bangladesh registered 775 more Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours to Tuesday morning – the highest single-day tally in 13 weeks. 

In the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning, Bangladesh logged the highest single-day caseload in 13 weeks. 

Health authorities reported 775 infections in the 24-hour count till Tuesday morning. 

With the latest development, the tally of Covid-infections has reached 1,587,915.

The country also reported two additional fatalities than the earlier day. On Tuesday morning, six deaths were reported from Covid-19, while on Monday four deaths were reported. 

With the latest development, the tally of Covid-19 fatalities in the country has reached 28,087.

Meanwhile, during the same period, another 185 people recovered from the illness through treatment at home and in hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,549,956.

According to the latest data by the health authorities, the country’s daily coronavirus infection rate jumped to 3.91 percent from Monday’s 3.37 percent. 

The figures were recorded between Monday 8:00 and Tuesday 8:00 am. 

The latest Covid-19 situation in the country was revealed by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in its routine statement. 

On Monday evening, an interministerial meeting was held to come up with decisions to curb the spread of the new and highly infectious Omicron variant. 

Bangladesh has reported 10 cases of the Omicron variant so far. 

Although the concerned authorites do not believe a lockdown is required currently, they have strictly urged all to maintain the mask-mandate, and some other restrictions and rules.
