Bangladesh reports highest cases in 14 weeks

On Wednesday in a 24-hour count, health authorities in Bangladesh reported 892 new cases - the highest in 14 weeks. 

Health authorities have also reported three more fatalities in the last day, taking the aggregate Covid-19 deaths to 28,090 

With the latest development, the tally of Covid-19 infections in the country has reached 1,588,807.

With 739 infections, Dhaka reported the highest number among all other divisions in terms of cases reported. 

According to government data, as many as 21,251 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 4.20 percent. 

Even though concerned government officials anticipated the rise in infections in April-May, but cases have started to jump from this week, sweeping in fear for another outbreak. 

Meanwhile, nationwide, another 212 people recovered from the infectious disease, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,550,168.

The figures were recorded between Tuesday 8:00 am and Wednesday 8:00 am. 

The latest Covid-19 situation in the country was revealed by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in its routine statement.
