Prof Mohammad Ali Arafat, the Awami League-backed candidate for Dhaka-17 by-polls, met Prime Minister‍‍`s ICT Affairs Adviser and Bangabandhu’s grandson Sajeeb Wazed Joy in a goodwill gesture on Friday, according to Facebook post of the academic-turned-politician.

Joy flew back to Bangladesh all the way from the US on Thursday, the Eid day.

In the meeting on Friday, the duo discussed the much-hyped election to Dhaka-17 that fell vacant following the death of actor Akbar Hossain Pathan Farooque. Their agenda also included the next general election, Arafat mentioned in his social media post.

“From behind the curtains, he (Joy) is always keeping an eye on local and international politics,” wrote Arafat, also the chairman of Suchinta Foundation, a Bangladeshi non-profit think tank and research centre.

Arafat is also a member of the Awami League‍‍`s Central Working Committee. The by-election is scheduled for July 17.
