2 Sylhet cops injured in reported attack by Jamaat men

Sylhet Kotwali Police Station OC along with his colleague has sustained injuries in a reported attack by the activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir in Sylhet city.

 

Injured Kotwali Police Station OC Mohammad Ali Mahmud and Sub-Inspector Nishu Lal Dey were taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. 

 

BM Ashraf Ullah Taher, additional deputy commissioner (Media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP), said the policemen came under attack while the Jamaat-Shibir activists  were holding a procession in Jail Road area of the city.

 

A group of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir activists – carrying sticks – brought out a procession in Jail Road area of Sylhet city around 2 pm on Tuesday.

 

Being informed, police from Kotwali Police Station and Bandarbazar police camp rushed to the spot and barred them as the procession was interrupting public movement, said police. 

 

At one stage of talk, the activists attacked police, leaving the OC and the SI injured. Later, police nabbed two persons from the spot.
