'Victim asked to kill him after iftar, assailants paid no heed'

A team of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained 5 people in connection with killing a man in Chattogram, Mohammed Morshed, who went to buy iftar items in Cox’s Bazar.

The arrest was made in the wee hours of Friday from Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar, officials said.

Rab said, Morshed was killed following a dispute regarding an irrigation project.  

“The arrestees directly took part in the murder. Morshed was beaten and stabbed to death,” Rab said.

“I am too tired now, I will break my fasting a while later. Please, kill me after iftar,” before being murdered Morshed asked the assailants, the law enforcers added.  

The detainees were identified as Mahmudul Haque, Mohammed Ali, Mohammed Abdullah, Abdul Aziz and Nurul Haque. According to RAB officials, the accused were arrested while they were fleeing the locality.

“The accused were fleeing to Dhaka. On information, we conducted a drive. All of them admitted the murder during interrogation, RAB-7 Company Commander Mahfuzur Rahman told the media.

On 7 April, Morshed went to Chengragha station to buy some food for iftar. On his way, Morshed was attacked, beaten and stabbed. He was taken to hospital where he succumbed later around 8pm. A case was filed over the issue with Cox’s Bazar Sadar police station.
