M Khurshid Hossain, Director General (DG) of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), said on Saturday that the Myanmar dictatorship has long tried to wage war against Bangladesh using various strategies.

"Myanmar is constantly agitating Bangladesh, beginning with the invasion of Rohingyas. However, the crisis was handled thanks to the prime minister‍‍`s firm attitude," he remarked.

On Saturday, the RAB DG spoke as the special guest at a function in Gopalganj‍‍`s Kashiani upazila.

"Now, going to war implies the end of the country. Myanmar now has a military government. They‍‍`re at war with the Arakan Army. So they aim to cause problems in Bangladesh by taking advantage of the situation," M Khurshid Hossain remarked.

The RAB DG mentioned Myanmar as the main route of drug smuggling in Bangladesh, and claimed that it is currently being done for political reasons.

"Drugs are increasingly arriving via air, sea, and from Myanmar. It is being sent in a planned manner. We have already spread the net, and the largest gangster in Myanmar is now on the net, therefore we will be able to do something," stated the RAB official.

"To eliminate drugs, we all have to build a social movement," he added.

Following fighting between government forces and the Arakan Army in Myanmar‍‍`s Rakhine state, gunfire echoed into Bangladesh‍‍`s Shapuree Dwip on Saturday.

People on the island had another sleepless night on Saturday, as loud gunfire rang out from 9 pm to midnight.

Since February 4, unrest has seized residents of Bandarban‍‍`s Naikhongchhari Upazila.

Several mortar shells crashed inside the Bangladeshi border, killing two people and injuring many more.

Following that, Bangladesh summoned Myanmar Ambassador in Dhaka, U Aung Kyaw Moe, to protest the casualties caused by Myanmar‍‍`s internal disputes.

Dr Md Monwar Hossain, the Bangladesh ambassador in Yangon, also met with Myanmar‍‍`s foreign minister to discuss the problem.

Furthermore, 23 Myanmar nationals were apprehended for unlawful entry into Bangladesh during the confrontations, which also put the Border Guard Bangladesh on high alert.
