Two got shot in Cumilla due to conflict amid ongoing mayoral by-election.

Both are supporters of Mohammad Nizam, the candidate with Horse symbol.

The reported ‘victims’ claimed that they were attacked by a Chhatra League man while police held a member of Chhatra Dal, Abu Sufian Auntu.

Chhatra League is the student wing of ruling Awami League where Chhatra Dal is the student chapter of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

A city unit Chatra league leader opened fire on Zahirul Ahmed and Md Tuhin, two supporters of candidate Nizam, said the local source.

The incident took place at the city‍‍`s ward no. 19 on the Munshi M Ali voting center around 10am when conflict reached its peak.

The injured were later taken to the Cumilla Medical College Hospital by the nearby law enforcers.

“I was standing beside the election center. Mr Sujon, a metropolitan branch Chhatra League leader, and a supporter for the candidate Tahsin Bahar with the bus symbol shooted me in front of the Police,” victim Zahirul describes the incident.

Tahsin Bahar Suchona is the daughter of Cumilla-6 constituency lawmaker AKM Bahauddin Bahar.

The candidate with horse symbol Mohammad Nizam complained, “The supporters of the bus symbol (Tahsin Bahar) are restricting my voters.”

He also alleged that they were attacking his supporters in different places.
Terming all the allegations baseless and fabricated, Tahsin Bahar claimed that one of her supporters was undergoing treatment at the hospital.

“I’m on the way to visit him,” she added.

Presiding Officer Hasan Ahmed said, “This conflict occurred outside of the voting center. I have informed this to the Magistrate.”

Returning officer Md Forhad Hossain said, “We have heard the complaint. Action will be taken.”
