Massive clashes between army and paramilitaries in Sudan, death toll rises to 56

Sudan‍‍`s military and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are in a fierce battle to seize and retain power. The death toll has risen to 56. The number of injured in this conflict has increased to about 600 people.

Quoting a Sudanese doctors‍‍` organization, the British news agency BBC reported that 25 people, including 17 civilians, were killed just in the capital city.

The international news agency Reuters reported that both the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces-RSF claimed Khartoum‍‍`s airport and other key locations to be under their control.

Sudan‍‍`s army said in a statement that there would be no reconciliation or discussion with the forces of paramilitary chief, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo. The paramilitaries must be disbanded.

Labeling General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo a fugitive criminal, the statement added, "We call on the citizens of Sudan not to have any understanding with him." It is also said to notify if his or his force are spotted.

Meanwhile, a general holiday has been declared in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, on Sunday to protect the lives and property of civilians.

The country has been in political disturbance since General Burhan came to power in December 2021 after overthrowing the civilian government of Sudan.

Al-Burhan imposed a state of emergency throughout the country after assuming power. He promised to hold elections by July 2023. He also promised to hand over power to a civilian government. But the main dispute arose over who would represent the unified military in the proposed civilian government.

Various factions and the military have failed to re-establish a civilian administration in Sudan. At the time, the issue of incorporating one lakh paramilitary soldiers into the army emerged as the main cause of the problem.
