Former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf no more

Pakistan's former president Gen (retd.) Pervez Musharraf has died at the aged of 79, following a prolonged illness.

He breathed his last at a hospital in Dubai on Sunday morning, where he was undergoing treatment for an ailment.

Musharraf was born on August 11, 1943, in Delhi of undivided India. The former president pursued higher education at Forman Christian College in Lahore.

He left Pakistan for Dubai in 2016 to seek medical treatment and had been living in exile in the country ever since.

His body will be flown back from the United Arab Emirates to Pakistan on a special flight after his family submitted an application to do so, local TV channel Geo News reports.

Pakistan's President Arif Alvi prayed "for eternal rest of the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss." Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed his condolences, as did the country's military leaders.
