COVID increasing in India; use of mask is mandatory

COVID infections are on the rise in India. A month ago, there were fewer than 500 patients diagnosed per day, it has now exceeded to 6000.

This information was given in a report of Indian news media NDTV.

The number of COVID patients are increasing rapidly in the last few days. Fearing a new wave of infections, some states have again mandated the use of masks, urging everyone to remain alert in other states as well.

In a review meeting earlier this week, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya advised states to be vigilant and review whether hospitals are ready or not.

That is why he has ordered to organize drills in all government and private hospitals of India on Monday and Tuesday.

6 thousand and 155 new COVID patients were detected across India on Saturday. The number of new cases were 6 thousand and 50 on Friday.

According to Hindustan Times, the number of active COVID affected patients in India is now 31 thousand 194. This number is also increasing rapidly over the past few days. 11 COVID affected patients died on Saturday.

India recently saw an outbreak of the BF.7 type of coronavirus, which is actually a subtype of Omicron. And now another subtype of Omicron, XBB1.16, is causing infections.

Experts say that the subtypes have spread rapidly but have not been seen to become particularly fatal in the past. So, without bein panicked everyone needs to be careful and follow the COVID rules.

Haryana and Puducherry have made it mandatory to wear masks in public places. In Kerala, pregnant women and the elderly have been asked to wear masks. Uttar Pradesh asked to strengthen screening of foreign passengers at airports. All samples that comes out positive for COVID test have been asked to be sent for genome sequencing.
