Covid-19 deaths rise; positivity rate stays below 5%

On Wednesday (September 22), in a 24-hour count, health authorities reported covid infections lower than 5% for the second consecutive day. However, single-day deaths have risen.

Covid-19 claimed as many as 36 lives in the last 24-hours. With this, the total covid deaths in the country has reached 27,313. In the last two days 26 deaths were reported on each day.

Meanwhile, 1,376 new infections were logged in a single day till Wednesday morning, taking the tally of covid infections to 1,547,176.

The figures were recorded between Tuesday 8:00 am Wednesday 8:00 am.

The latest covid situation in the country was revealed by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in its routine daily statement.

In the last 24 hours, 26,738 samples were tested. The covid positivity rate stands at 4.89. On Tuesday, the rate was 4.69. Earlier, on March 8 this year, the covid detection rate was 4.3. After six and a half months, the detection rate dropped below 5 yesterday, indicating an overall improvement in the covid situation of Bangladesh.
