Mocha becomes severe cyclonic storm: Met Dpt

Cyclone Mocha formed in the Bay of Bengal has turned into a severe cyclone. This information was revealed in a special notice given by the Meteorological Department at 9pm on Thursday.

However, the weather office informed about the formation of this cyclone this morning.

The Meteorological Department in its website scroll, stated: The Cyclonic storm "Mocha" over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining area intensified into a severe cyclonic Storm. It is likely to intensify further. Maritime ports have been advised to keep hoisted distant warning signal no. two.

 

However, the government agency misspelled the word 'storm'. It wrote 'stom'.

Meteorological Department officials could not be reached over phone for comment regarding the error.

According to the special weather bulletin No. 7 issued around 9pm, Cyclone 'Mocha', which is located in South-East Bay of Bengal and nearby areas, has moved further northwards and intensified and turned into a severe cyclone in the same area. It is 1,205 km south and southwest of Chittagong sea port, 1,130 km south and southwest of Cox's Bazar sea port, 1,165 km south and southwest of Mongla sea port and 1,130 km from Payra sea port at 6 pm on Thursday. It was located in the south and south-west. It may move northwards and become more concentrated till tomorrow (Friday) morning, then change direction and gradually move north and northeast.

According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum sustained wind speed is 90 km per hour within 64 km of the center of the cyclone. It grows up to 110 km in the form of heavy or stormy winds (gust winds). The sea has got rough in the vicinity of the cyclone center.
